Meet the Locals: John & Jenny at Penny Lane Plants

Penny Lane Plants evolved due to the fact that both of us  (John and Jenny) had experience in the nursery industry at some stage in our lives (John for many years) and just love plants and gardening.  We have large established gardens which we have created and lovingly nurtured over some 18 years of living on our property.  Many friends and family had commented that we should share our gardens and knowledge with others.  And so it began ……

We are both plant nuts and are perfectly happy planting, propagating and potting plants in our gardens, potager or nursery. We grow the plants we sell so there is quite a bit to do.  We have chosen to be open only by appointment which is easily arranged and we try very hard to accommodate most times where we can.
There are so many great garden plants and we are increasing our range all the time. Our particular focus is to seek out those plants that are proven garden performers. Many have been forgotten but we feel are worthy of a place in the garden. We also marvel at the beauty of hydrangeas and there are so many very special ones available but not widely known. Hydrangea varieties have become a significant part of our nursery.

The previous owners of this property had encouraged a few native birds.  We continued this and immediately installed feeding stations and planted for the birds.  The results speak for themselves.  The resident birds bring their babies to the garden which rewards us for our efforts.  Many visitors to the nursery are Wowed by the Tui and bellbirds as they take flight and harmoniously sing from the trees.

We have a lovely range of perennials, some iris and select shrubs.  The gardens can be viewed in Spring. We look forward to welcoming you to our sanctuary!
